Bob McDonald was recently on Fox & Friends to share the mission of the Elizabeth Dole Foundation during the 12 Days of Giving. Below are highlights of the segment:

Fox & Friends: “This very important cause, 12 Days of Giving continues with Elizabeth Dole Foundation. The nonprofit has numerous initiatives providing care to military service members, Veterans and very importantly their families. Let’s bring in Nevian Mitchell who has made this a corner stone of Elizabeth Dole Foundation.
Steven Schwab: “It is the long road of recovery our veterans have, They have suffered multiple and serious wounds, Illnesses, and caregivers are helping helping a lot of times for a lifetime. Life at home continues, The war is waged in homes across America. 14 And a half million families in every corner of this country are working every single day to keep veterans on their feet, provide economic income, provide day in, day out care to thrive.”

Fox & Friends: “14 and a half million, Friends and neighbors and Secretary McDonald, You were the VA secretary and have seen them and their families in hardest moments of their lives, how does it translate to what you are doing now.”
Bob McDonald: “About a dozen years ago Elizabeth Dole was at the VA with her husband Bob Dole. She talked to family members and caregivers and recognized and that the laws we had were not supporting caregivers and families of veterans. She’s worked hard, as I did as secretary, to put in place support for caregivers. It is not enough. That is why the Elizabeth Dole Foundation is critical, we fill in gaps created by holes in the laws.”

Fox & Friends: “And Brierly Wilson, You were one of the caregivers. Husband received above knee amputation, brain injury, And you were battling thyroid cancer, How did you do it?”
Brierly Wilson: “There is financial strain, emotional and physical wounds, you find an organization that fills in the gap and provide for mental and physical health and closing gaps and representing us, Making voices heard, recognize us and make us seen.”
Fox & Friends: “And Nevian, You are a child caretaker, tell us about your story.”
Nevian Mitchell: “My dad was a combat in artillery for 18 years. He had me before — after his injury. I grew up knowing this, I grew up having to deal with where is dad’s arm. Where did it go? Grew up with a dad without an arm. It is basically been my whole life, I don’t know what normal is technically. And it has been my whole life.”
Fox & Friends:” “And you have been a hero in taking care of your dad and Elizabeth Dole Foundation has been there every step of the way. Here is your surprise, Fox is granting you $10,000 to help with bills and other needs you might have.”

Fox & Friends: “We love you, We are here to support you and your foundation. Thank you to Elizabeth Dole for all this work.”
